Pages: 342From the Publisher:The entire school’s talking about the gorgeous new math teacher, Mr. Beck. Everyone except Kaylee Cavanaugh. After all, Kaylee’s no ordinary high-school junior. She’s a banshee—she screams when someone dies.
But the next scream might be for Kaylee.
Yeah—it’s a shock to her, too. So to distract herself, Kaylee’s going to save every girl in school. Because that hot new teacher is really an incubus who feeds on the desire of unsuspecting students. The only girls immune to his lure are Kaylee and Sabine, her boyfriend’s needy ex-girlfriend. Now the unlikely allies have to get rid of Mr. Beck…before he discovers they aren’t quite human, either.
But Kaylee’s borrowed lifeline is nearing its end. And those who care about her will do anything to save her life.
Anything.
First Reaction: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! What was that?!? *throws kindle across the room* I don’t even know how to rate this book because it was great, but I was so upset with what happened. (I can’t say because it will spoil). Does that make it a great book anyway? Probably. Some people were probably jumping up and down cheering, but me, I was crying in the corner.
The Story: Wicked intense. The story continues the saga of Kaylee the bean sidhe, and the fact that she seems to live in a hot-bed of paranormal activity. The new hot math teacher is definitely not human and he’s out to seduce and feed on the girls at school, including Kaylee’s best friend, Emma. On top of this, Kaylee has gotten some dire news and everyone who loves her is working around the clock to change the outcome. And on top of THAT, Kaylee is working on restoring her relationship with Nash. Yah, a lot going on!
The Romance: Oh man, it is hard not to spoil but I swear I won’t. Nash is trying to make it up to Kaylee for his Frost addiction and not telling Kaylee about the times Avari possessed her body. And he really is trying. Kaylee is desperate to forgive him as well, but something in her heart isn’t 100% there. I got that and it was so real…I loved! But then Kaylee does something she really shouldn’t have, and all of a sudden she isn’t so honest anymore either.
Throw Sabine into the mix and it gets even harder for them to get back on track. However, they really were trying and I was SO. FREAKING. EXCITED. and fist pumping a few times. AND THEN I CRIED.
Sabine & Tod: I already loved Tod, but this book made me actually like Sabine. She is growing on me like a harmless fungus or something. I think I might truly even like her in the next installment?? We shall see. Tod now, he is a very good friend to Kaylee and always willing to do anything for her. He did something that upset me and honestly, I’m not sure I can forgive him, but I really love him so I might have to get over it. GAH. I know, this is so secretive but you must read it yourself.
The Ending: See the first section where I throw the kindle. All kinds of sh*t happened. Some of it was awesome, but I was not a happy little reader. *zips lips*
Rec it? Yes, yes, yes. I pretty much lost a whole night’s sleep after I finished this book, but that is probably a testament to how good If I Die is. Evoking emotion is hard to do, and Ms. Vincent did that in spades. Thank you, but at the same time I’m giving you the evil eye.
