Pages: 279From the Publisher: She doesn’t see dead people. She senses when someone near her is about to die. And when that happens, a force beyond her control compels her to scream bloody murder. Literally.
Kaylee just wants to enjoy having caught the attention of the hottest guy in school. But a normal date is hard to come by when Nash seems to know more about her need to scream than she does. And when classmates start dropping dead for no apparent reason, only Kaylee knows who’ll be next.
First reaction: Omg, omg so good. I want more! Such a unique world and I couldn’t get enough of this fabulous story and amazing romance! On to the next book!
The Story: Kaylee does not know what she is and we learn as she learns. As she finds out she isn’t human, she also is introduced to a whole organized world of creatures and types of “people” that she never knew existed. I love this stuff! There have been 3 recent deaths in town, and Kaylee is convinced there is something connecting them, and she is so determined to find out. We also got to learn more about the Irish folklore of bean sidhes and I loved it. Ms. Vincent had me flipping the pages trying to find out what was going on and who was behind the illegal soul poaching. It also had the perfect amount of romance! Win
Kaylee: One of the reasons I liked her was that she was as humble as she was brave. It was a great combination. She also thought Nash was out of her league, but was still confident enough to ask him. When he confirmed he truly wanted her, she didn’t have constant self doubt. I hate insecurity!
Nash: Confident and smitten. Loved him! I wanted adored him from the second I met him. He was able to calm Kaylee down when he sang to her using Influence and I knew there was something special about him.
The Romance: Oh, it was SO great. I loved how their eyes were the windows to their souls with the swirling. I could picture it and it was so unique. With Nash and Kaylee there was physical chemistry and love, which made for a total partnership. I could see how Kaylee started to worry that Nash was only attracted to her for her nonhuman quality, but I truly believed Nash really fell for Kaylee the whole package. I could also feel the romance slowly cranking up and I loved it!
Twists, Turns, and Double Crossings: Woa! Not who I expected to be making deals behind the scenes. I was shocked. Maybe there were some signs but I clearly did not pick up on them in that way and I loved it. I knew a certain person had some information, but did not expect them to be behind so much of the loss. I also got the awesome surprise about Tod. I loved who he was.
Character love: Brendon, Aiden, Harmony….all awesome. I’d want any of them for parents! They seem so wise yet so reasonable at the same time. I didn’t have any love or hate for the BFF Emma which is a good thing since so often they annoy me. I did hate Kaylee’s cousin, Sophie, and I hope she gets what is coming to her one day.
Any Gripes: None? Is that ok? Alright, it was too short. I want more answers but there are so many more books in this series….so problem solved!
The Ending: Woa at that death! It was a sad ending but there was no massive cliff hanger. However, once again, I’m so happy this is only the first book in the series because I can’t wait to keep reading.
Rec it? YES. One of my new favorite authors and series now. This has it all: a great romance and story to back it up. Happy reading!
